First ever superhero RPG planning a comeback
Checker Book Publishing Group is planning to reboot the classic RPG Superhero 2044, thought to be the first ever superhero-themed RPG to hit the market.
The company says it has bought the rights to the 40-year-old title and is planning to launch a Kickstarter campaign in late 2017. In a statement, it said that it planned to “reset the standard for the superhero game genre.”
Alongside the RPG, Checker BPG says that it will be releasing a collectible card game based on the game, as well as a setting guide.
The original Superhero 2044 was set in the wake of a global nuclear war that caused otherwise normal humans to develop incredible powers, making both heroes and villains a core part of society. Though it was praised for its originality and comprehensive ruleset, it did receive criticism at the time for its complexity and reliance on number-crunching.
