Publishers team up for Free RPG Day 2017
More than a dozen companies are coming together to help support Free RPG Day 2017, offering gamers around the world sample rules, adventures and dice.
The Free RPG Day event is designed to give players the chance to test out new games and help people get their first taste of the hobby. Organised by game distribution company Impressions, it has been running for ten years and has spread to hundreds of hobby stores.
This year gamers will get a chance to get their hands on products ranging from quickstart rules for 13th Age, Dungeon Crawl Classics, and the Conan RPG, as well as supplements for games including Pathfinder, Starfinder, and Numenera. There will also be accessories and dice from companies including Q-Workshop, Chessex and Syrinscape.
Chaosium will also be using the event to showcase its revised version of Runequest, releasing quickstart rules and a sample adventure. The company says that it has been contacted by more than 60 GMs looking to run games in their local stores.
“I am excited that RuneQuest has been added to our ongoing organised play network,” says Todd Gardiner, Chaosium’s Director of Organised Play. “As a long time RuneQuest player myself, it is great to see this modern re-tuning of a classic game returning to tabletops as part of Free RPG Day.”
Free RPG Day 2017 is being run on 17th June. More information, including a list of participating stores, can be found on the event website.
